Robocop : ED 209 Paper Model

Finally I made this ED 209 robot paper model from Robocop movie. This model is a request from my fellow paper modeler Tom aka Modelnutz7 from Scotland more than a year ago. For almost two weeks I work on this model, from 3d modeling, unfolding and finally texture vector painting. The whole 3d model already finish but the patterns is about one third. Because the interval between each model release by paper replika is too long so i decide to divide 59 pages of 1/6 scale into 3 separate parts. The first part is the head and part of its arms. This release includes 1/6 and 1/10 scale, so you have to watch the page number when print them.

I tried to do it on a scale 1 / 6, but failed. It seems to me the details 11, 14, 16, 9, 12 were too large for the 200 grams paper. I will do it on a scale 1/10 :)

This version of Ed-209 is even better then then old one that is out there on the net. Fantastic work young man, that you! I love these paper models and doubt if I will ever go back to plastic. Which we had these when I was a teenager growing up but the USA just wasn't into paper models as Europe was and to be frank, I never knew about them until last year. Now I have about 20 GB's worth that probably last me 5 years to compelete them all. But hey, it's still fun to collect and download them for free!

I have just started to build this and have run into a small snag regarding part numbers 9, 12, 14 and 11 on the 1/10 scale size. If constucted as above the fold lines half way down do not match up on part 14 to the fold lines on parts 9 and 12 ( out by 4 mm ) if I turn parts 9 and 12 round so the 3 vertical black dots are at the front then the folds do match.

Amadiro I had the same issue. I had to change the fold lines. I'm doing the 1/6 scale version. the problem is in the template but if you adjust those lines the rest of the model builds fine!

What program do you use for such great illustration of parts? I mean your pictures looks like renders from 3D model of ED-209. Do you have a 3D model of ED-209?

seus modelos são ótimos. parabéns!!! comecei a montar o ed, a montagem é muito bem explicada. valew :) :)
  • Alluvian  - Help on snag pointed out above
Parts 14 and 11 do not assemble as the pic shows. If you reverse parts 9 and 12 then that piece assembles, but the angles formed are wrong for the final assembly. This is most easily noted by how piece 24 only fits on one side, but the side it fits on is the FRONT of that assembly. The black mesh 'sensor dome' also only fits correctly on one side (due to the angles on parts 7 and 6). My thought is just to assemble this part as it works and just put it in backwards. The only part where it will look bad is the tiny area where black is on either side of the 'mouth', which I can just paint or marker in beforehand. Has anyone else built this yet? what were your solutions?
